Italian Students Coming Soon!

HELP ENTERTAIN OUR ITALIAN STUDENT VISITORS

What a great response so far from the Saluda Community to help show our two Italian student visitors how we live and have fun in Saluda and these beautiful mountains.   Four Saludians will take them into their homes and 10 more families have volunteered to take them to cultural events or show them the area.  We need to fill a few more slots.  The girls have specifically asked to go to barbeque places, play putt-putt golf, try go-carting, and go shopping at the outlet mall and at Costco and just a local grocery.  Can you help?   Here are some other ideas:

* Hiking on area trails, exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, a picnic, tubing on the Green River, a day at Lake Lure/Chimney Rock or Dupont Forest.

*Biltmore house (if you have a season pass), Carl Sandburg House, the Equestrian Center, Pisgah Forest (maybe sliding rock), tubing down the Green River, a winery visit one day when there is music, or WHATEVER you can think of!  LET’S FILL UP THEIR CALENDAR!!

Our visitors will be in Saluda from July 10 to July 26.  To volunteer for an activity please contact Pam Gray at pmgray7@rsnet.org, or 828-749-3006.

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR LOCAL FOOD MERCHANTS WHO ARE OFFERING THEM A TASTE OF SALUDA CUISINE.  When the schedule is clear, we will announce where they will be dining and anyone who wants to meet them and join in a meal can do so.

MEET MASSIMO AND NORA

Massimo has been to Saluda several times and is the owner of the Palazzo where our Sister City tours stay.  He provided a week of free accommodations, food, cooking lessons and touring in Abruzzo to our two teachers last April and to Claire Thompson, our Saluda Exchange student, last July.  Massimo is chair of the Carunchio Sister City group. Nora is his oldest daughter. She and her childhood friend, Marta, will be our summer student visitors.

NEW TRIP TO 2025 FLOWER FESTIVAL NOW OPEN

June of 2025 will see Saluda travelers and friends flying to Italy to participate in Carunchio’s annual Flower Festival.  It is an amazing opportunity to interact with local Carunchio residents and also enjoy all that the Palazzo has to offer…fine red wine, amazing Italian cuisine, trips to explore the Abruzzo region, comfortable accommodations… all for one price after you buy your airfare to Rome. Our Sister City price is much lower than the standard internet price: less than $2,600 per person all-inclusive except airfare.  And we’ll help you plan some extra days before or after. For full brochure, contact Judy Thompson, jdt@JDThompsonLaw.com.

SAVE THE DATE!

Jay Wilkinson will be here from Texas on July 17 to present a talk on his book, “A Lie Will Suffice.”  It’s the story of his Sicilian family which had strong links to organized crime and all the drama that goes with it.  Saluda Sister City will present this dramatic story free to Saludians.

On October 16, Sister City is bringing in La Terza Classes, an Italian Bluegrass band to perform at Tryon Fine Arts Center.  Mark your calendars and watch for more details.  You can preview them and their music by putting this into your browser:  la terza classse
